Fifty-two counties in Oklahoma remain under a STATE OF EMERGENCY as wildfires that began in mid-April continue consuming everything in their paths. Currently, 350,000 total acres have been scorched, an area close to the size of Chicago and New York put together.
We’ve seen the positive impacts that Stars of HOPE can bring to areas devastated by natural disaster, most recently in the Sonoma wine country of California. Families who have lost everything in wildfires feel a ray of hope when they see a brightly painted Star of HOPE… a stark contrast to the blackened landscape left by the devouring fires.
A HOPE Bank for Oklahoma has been opened in neighboring Mena, Ark., a community who has also experienced the healing that comes with Stars of HOPE following an EF3 tornado that hit its downtown in 2009.
