2009
In June 2008, the Little Sioux Scout Ranch, Iowa, was hit by a EF-3 tornado and four young Boy Scouts were killed. In conjunction with the 2009 New York Says Thank You annual 9/11 Anniversary build project, a Stars of HOPE event was held at the Scout Ranch. 300 Stars of HOPE were cut, sanded, and painted by adult and youth volunteers. The Stars were then placed along a mountain path used by the Scouts to bring inspiration and hope to both the Scouts who survived the tornado and the families of the four Boy Scouts who were lost.
