The Story of Columbia Grammar, NYC

Students at Columbia Grammar in NYC create Stars of HOPE® for Gatlinburg, TN

Jeff Parness, founder of New York Says Thank You Foundation went to Columbia Grammar School in NYC and discussed with students what they could do to make a difference in a community that suffered from a disaster. Older kids learned the info from Jeff’s presentation and then they were the leaders and teachers of their younger buddies. They were creating Stars of HOPE to lift the spirits of the community of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, a community that is still recovering from the devastating wildfire that lost many lives and destroyed many homes and businesses.

“My favorite moment was when Jeff asked, ‘Think about one word, one picture that would bring someone HOPE’, the conversation took off from there.”

Simone Hristidis

Principal, Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School
